Our Customers are  national and international airlines, charter airlines as well as military,  business and private planes.

They all form the general air traffic which is normally flying along airways (air traffic services  routes). In addtion to the general air traffic, operational military traffic is  also controlled by our unit.

The traffic figures for 1998

      general air traffic                          806 471 flights   (98%) operational air traffic                      12 922 flights   (2%)

In 1998 a total amount of

780 449 flights

(general air traffic) had been controlled by the Niederlassung Karlsruhe.

The statistics give following peak values:

      Month:     July                                      74 614 flights

      Day:          09th of September                2 524 flights

      Hour:        02nd of Sept. 15:00-16:00       221 flights

         

They consist of following profiles:

            ~ 31 %  level flights

            ~ 25 %  arrivals*

      * (flights decending within our area of jurisdiction to airports within Germany resp. foreign airports adjacent to our area of jurisdiction.)

            ~ 37 %  departures**

      ** (flights climbing to their cruising level within our area of jurisdiction departing from airports within Germany resp. foreign airports adjacent to our area of jurisdiction.)

      ~  7 %  internal flights***

       *** (short distance flights climbing to and maintaining their crusing level and finally  descending within our area of jurisdiction from/ to airports within Germany resp. foreign airports adjacent to our area of jurisdiction.)

Aircraft tracks  recorded during a typical day show the high amount of potential conflicts due to  crossing airways within the area of jurisdiction of Karlsruhe UAC.

Average yearly increases of the traffic figures of 6 to 8% also lead to an increase in this  problem area.
